An important distinction

The right process matters.

We offer both in-home spraying and workshop finishing.

Most common - In-home spraying

Sprayed in your kitchen

Doors are removed and sprayed on-site within a fully controlled masking area. Exposed carcass edges and face frames are sprayed in place, with dust extraction used throughout.

3–4 days on site Suitable for all cabinet types Faster turnaround

Your kitchen remains in place throughout, but there will be periods where access is limited during preparation and spraying. We fully mask and protect the space, keeping disruption as contained and short as possible.

Less disruption - Workshop finishing

Doors finished in our workshop

Doors are removed and finished in our workshop, while frames are masked and sprayed in place. This hybrid approach combines the control of workshop spraying with the efficiency of on-site work. Doors are then returned, re-hung and adjusted once complete.

4–5 working days No door spraying on-site Lower disruption

Doors are removed for workshop finishing, while frames and exposed sections are completed on-site. This hybrid approach reduces disruption and keeps on-site work more contained.

Phase 2

On-site preparation

Where the quality of the finish is defined.

04
Full kitchen masking & protection
Worktops, appliances, flooring, walls and sockets are carefully masked and protected before spraying begins. We use professional masking systems throughout, with dust extraction in place during the work. Protection is carried out in stages as the project progresses, ensuring the space remains clean and controlled.
05
Door removal, labelling & degreasing
Every door is removed and labelled so it’s returned to its exact position once complete. All surfaces are then thoroughly cleaned and degreased to remove built-up kitchen residues and ensure proper adhesion. Kitchen grease bonds invisibly to surfaces and is a leading cause of adhesion failure.
06
Sanding & substrate-specific priming
Surfaces are carefully prepared to create a strong key for the primer coat. Primer systems are then selected based on the substrate - whether painted wood, MDF, laminate or vinyl - to ensure a durable, long-lasting finish.
Phase 3

Spraying

The part everyone sees. Built on everything that came before it.

07
Primer & first coat
The first topcoat is applied by HVLP spray, producing an atomised, even film across every surface. Once dry, each surface is lightly flatted by hand - this removes any minor texture and ensures the next coat bonds perfectly and lies flat. This step is what separates a factory finish from a paint job.
08
Final coat - the finish coat
The final topcoat is applied using specialist cabinet coating systems - professionally formulated for kitchens, not multipurpose paint. The result is a smooth, even finish with no brush marks, runs or texture. Harder, more durable, and built to last.
Phase 4

Handover and guarantee

You're left with a kitchen that looks new - and a finish you can rely on

09
Re-hang, adjust & final check
Doors are re-hung and adjusted as needed before we consider the job complete. We check alignment, hinges and handles, and walk through everything with you to make sure you're happy with the finish.
10
3-year guarantee
Every Finishworks kitchen comes with a 3-year workmanship guarantee. If the finish fails under normal use, we'll return and put it right - no quibble, no charge.
11
Aftercare advice
We'll guide you on how to care for your kitchen once the work is complete - what to clean with, what to avoid, and how to keep the finish looking its best. A professionally sprayed kitchen requires very little maintenance, but a few simple habits will help it last for years.

Common questions, clearly answered

Can I stay in my home while you work?+
Yes - absolutely. Most clients remain at home throughout the project or continue their normal working routine during the day. We carefully mask and protect the kitchen area to keep disruption as contained as possible, while the rest of the home remains largely unaffected.
Will the spray smell affect my home?+
We use water-based coating systems, so odour is low compared to traditional solvent paints. There will be some spraying carried out on-site, so you may notice a light smell while work is underway. This reduces quickly with ventilation and typically dissipates by the following day. We use controlled masking and dust extraction to contain the working area and minimise any spread through the home.
How durable is the finish?+
A correctly prepared and sprayed kitchen using specialist cabinet coating systems can last for many years under normal use. We provide a 3-year workmanship guarantee on every project. Durability comes down to preparation, materials and process - which is why each stage is carefully controlled from start to finish.
How long before I can use the kitchen normally?+
Your kitchen can usually be used in a limited way throughout the project, though some access restrictions should be expected during spraying and preparation. Once complete, we recommend allowing 24–48 hours before returning to normal use.
Do I need to empty my kitchen cupboards?+
Not entirely - we ask that items are moved away from the immediate door and drawer fronts so they don't obstruct our work. Wall units and base units themselves don't need emptying unless we're spraying the interior, which is only done on request.
What happens if I'm not happy with the result?+
We do a full walkthrough with you before we leave - any issues are addressed on the day. If something comes to light afterwards and is covered by the guarantee, we return and fix it at no charge.
