Our difference

Preparation is where quality is won or lost.

A spray finish is only as good as the surface beneath it. Kitchen grease, contaminants and inadequate priming are often what cause finishes to break down over time. At Finishworks, these stages are never rushed or overlooked.

Every substrate - painted wood, laminate, vinyl wrap, MDF - needs a tailored approach to cleaning, priming and preparation. That's why we use specialist systems designed specifically for each surface.

Full degrease
Kitchen grease bonds invisibly to surfaces and is one of the leading causes of adhesion failure. Every door and carcass edge is thoroughly cleaned before anything else happens.
Sanding & keying
Surfaces are abraded to create mechanical adhesion for the primer coat. This step is fundamental to a finish that lasts, ensuring your kitchen remains pristine for years to come.
Substrate-specific priming
Laminate and vinyl require specialist adhesion primers - standard primers will not bond permanently to non-porous surfaces. We specify the correct system for every substrate, every time.
The result
A finish that performs as well as it looks - resistant to daily kitchen use and backed by our 3-year workmanship guarantee, because we're confident in the foundation it's built on.

Every kitchen type, handled correctly.

Solid or painted wood

A common substrate - but still requires proper degreasing, sanding and a correctly specified primer before topcoat. Most common in older, traditional or bespoke kitchens.

Shaker Slab In-frame Bespoke joinery
Laminate & vinyl wrap

These non-porous surfaces require a specialist adhesion primer before any topcoat is applied. We assess whether to remove vinyl wrap for a superior substrate or prime directly, ensuring a lasting, factory-grade finish

Gloss laminate Matt laminate Vinyl wrapped Thermofoil
MDF

MDF takes paint well but its edges absorb primer unevenly, requiring careful sealing before topcoat. Profiles and routed details are sprayed with particular care to avoid paint build-up in recesses.

01
Send photos, get a fixed quote
Send a few photos of your kitchen via WhatsApp or email - doors, carcasses, handles and any areas of damage or previous paint. That's all we need to provide an accurate, fixed-price quote. No home visit required (free optional site visit available).
02
Colour selection & method confirmed
We advise on colour, sheen level and whether in-home or workshop finishing is right for your job. We match to Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, RAL or any colour you bring us.
03
Full protection & preparation
Worktops, appliances, floors and walls are fully masked and protected. Doors are removed and labelled. Every surface is cleaned, degreased, sanded and primed to the correct system for its substrate. Dust extraction is used throughout. This is where the quality is built.
04
Spraying - multiple coats, sanded between
Specialist cabinet coating systems are applied by HVLP spray in multiple coats, with inter-coat sanding between each. The result is a smooth, even finish with no brush marks, runs or texture - identical in appearance to a factory-sprayed door.
05
Re-hang, walkthrough & sign-off
All doors are re-hung and adjusted for alignment. We do a full walkthrough with you - anything that isn't right to your eye is addressed before we leave. Your 3-year workmanship guarantee is issued on completion.

We recommend the right
method for your kitchen.

Every project is different. We'll recommend the best approach based on your kitchen, layout and household.

In-home spraying Most popular

Doors are removed and sprayed within a fully masked extraction zone in your home, while exposed frames and edges are finished in place. Professional dust extraction is used throughout, ensuring a clean and efficient process

3-4 working days Faster turnaround Single or two-tone finishes
Workshop finishing Less disruption

Doors are removed and taken to our workshop, while your frames are masked and sprayed in situ. This hybrid approach ensures minimal disruption and maximum quality. Your kitchen stays fully functional throughout. Doors are returned, re-hung and adjusted once complete.

4-5 working days No on-site door spraying Ideal for busy households

Questions we get asked.

Anything else - just ask. We're happy to talk through your kitchen before you commit to anything.

How long does a kitchen respray take? +
Most kitchens take 4–5 working days in total. In-home spraying is typically completed within 3–4 days on site, while workshop finishing takes 4–5 days including door collection and return. Our process is designed to minimise disruption throughout the project
Can laminate or vinyl wrap kitchens be sprayed? +
Yes - and they're some of our most dramatic transformations. We assess every surface: if the existing vinyl wrap is compromised, we fully remove it to create a fresh substrate. Otherwise, we apply a specialist adhesion primer, guaranteeing a permanent bond on every unique kitchen.
Will there be a strong smell in my home? +
We use modern, low-odour water-based systems. While you may notice a faint scent during and immediately after application, it dissipates quickly with standard ventilation. We use professional extraction to maintain air quality, and you can opt for our workshop service to significantly minimise the amount of on-site spraying.
How durable is the finish? +
A correctly prepared and sprayed kitchen using specialist cabinet coating systems should last 8-12 years under normal use. We back every job with a 3-year workmanship guarantee. The key to durability is preparation - which is why we don't cut those steps.
Do I need to empty my kitchen cupboards? +
You don't need to empty your entire kitchen. We simply ask that you clear your worktops and move items away from door and drawer fronts to ensure our workspace is clear. The interiors of your cupboards do not need to be emptied unless you have specifically requested that we spray the insides.
What areas do you cover? +
We cover South West London (Wandsworth, Richmond, Wimbledon, Kingston, Teddington, Putney, Clapham, Battersea), West London (Fulham, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Kensington, Chelsea, Notting Hill, Ealing), North West London (Hampstead, Barnet, Harrow, Brent) and surrounding home counties including Surrey and Middlesex.
